What Causes Nose Bleed During Sleep?

Ive never experienced nose bleeds before, but a couple of months ago i had my first one, wasnt a big problem just a few drops of blood however last night i woke up at 5:00am covered in blood from a nose bleed that occured during my sleep. Because i dont suffer from nose bleeds regularly does it mean anything that im getting them now and so severely?
