What Causes Numbness In Hands And Fingers Along With Weakness?

My husband has an appt. With a neurologist in a couple weeks. It started with numbness in both of his hands, thumb, pointer, and index finger. They said carpal tunnel. Within 2 days, his feet, toes began to go numb. Even up his legs. He has pain at times and weakness. Tonight he said his nose felt numb!!! My sister in law, a nurse, questioned if they looked at periferial neuropathy. Any ideas???
