What Causes Numbness In Hands Post Total Knee Replacement?

I had total knee replacement surgery 4 weeks ago today. I have numbness in both hands and both the little fingers and the one next to it. this happened right after surgery. when I called the dr. office was told that it would go away. what would cause this? It has not gone away.
