What Causes Numbness In Penis After Sitting For A While?

My boyfriend is 32 years old and said that for the past week every time he sits down for like 5 mins or longer his penis starts to go numb or more like the feeling when your arm or leg goes to sleep. He is very worried. He has never had any other problems in that area. What could be causing it and what should he do about it?
