What Causes Odor From A Elderly Person's Body?

My Dad is 79 years old and is in good health. He has good hygiene and within the last 3 weeks we have noticed a bad odor coming from him. Could this be his liver? What other diagnosis could this be? he has a doctors appt coming up but COULD this be a serious symptom of something bigger?
