What Causes One Sore And Itchy Nipple With Skin Flaking Out?

ok so only one nipple gets sore and itchy and then nothing happens until some skin flakes off and leaving raw skin underneath. Normally this wouldn't worry me but it is only the one and has happened twice in the last month- is it just dry or my worst fear from medical and applied entomology class?
