What Causes Open Hole On Forehead Area?

My husband has an open hole on his forehead area on the left side. He thinks it is an in grown hair but no hair ever appears. After much manipulation, it occasionally it will release fluid. It just stays an open hole about the size of the tip of a pencil. He has messed with it so much it is a big darkened area all the way around the opening.
