What Causes Overlapping Of Bones At The Side Of Ribs?

I have had oddly shaped ribs for years now and never thought anything of it. But now when I feel the sides of my ribs where the back hooks around to the front, and they are overlapping significantly. Also on the left side if I do side crunches my ribs pop. Is it bad that my ribs overlap so much, it s almost as if the ribs protecting my back are being pushed into the front.
