What Causes Pain And Numbness At The Base Of Penis In A Child?

Hello Dr. Rynna - my very athletic, healthy 10-year old son is complaining that his penis hurts at the base- almost causing a numbing sensation. I m assuming his pants are too tight as he s growing so quickly but he claims with or without pants there is this lingering, uncomfortable sensation. He said it does not hurt to urinate. His belly has no discomfort. He does not experience sharp pains. He showers about four times/week after hockey practices and games. I will add he does wear a cup when on the ice. He said it feels weird. Perhaps this is the onset of puberty? Early? He will turn 11 at the end of May. Thank you. Deb
