What Causes Pain And Soreness In The Left Nipple?

I am 28 years old and i woke up this morining with pain in my left nipple and it feels really hard behind it and its really sore and feels like its burning i have done nothing to my left nipple for it to hurt. it just feels as if there is a knot behind it. what should i do or what do you think it is
