What Causes Pain And Swelling In Between The Foot And Ankle?

I was recently diagnosed with medial tendonitis. I have been doing physical therapy with good results. I tripped over an extension cord with my bad foot, feeling like it rolled my ankle to the outside. Now I have pain and some swelling on the outside of my foot above and toward the center of my ankle bone. I thought it was a sprain, but it is now 3 weeks, and not much improvement. I wonder if xrays would eliminate a fracture or something. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Cathie
