What Causes Pain And Swelling In Ear Along With Dizzy Spells?

I am having severe pain in my ear and the area around my ear, behind it and under it is tender. My ear canal is completely occluded as there is a swelling in my ear that has closed off the ear canal according to my wife. My doctor says it is diabetic ear when this happened last fall. Today however, besides the pain and swelling, I had a dizzy sensation almost to the point of making me physically sick. I can not find anything online about diabetic ear. Any suggestions?
