What Causes Pain And Uncomfortable Feeling On Wearing Tampons?

I have been using tampons for over a year with no problems, but recently they have been to painful to use. They feel fine when i put them in but as soon as i remove the applicator, they hurt and feel uncomfortable. It almost feels dry and is rubbing weird or something.
