What Causes Pain Between Knuckles?

What is tendinitis ? I have pain between index knuckle and first finger knuckle ,it's a shooting pain when I twist or turn hand in a certain way. I work as a tiler a friend said it might be tendinitis , another concern I have is that it was piece of glass as I have a glass cut about an inch from pain
