What Causes Pain Between Shoulder Blades?

For about a week now I have had pain in my back mainly between shoulder blades. I have a cold/flu like symptoms and when I sneeze or cough I get a sharp pain down my spine sometimes. Putting ice on my back back relieves the pain, but it eventually comes back.
