What Causes Pain From Back Of My Neck Towards The Head?

I was straining while going to the bathroom and have considerable shooting pain throughout the back of my neck and my head, it also is painful to move my neck and head to the point of nausea. Is this something that I should be seen for in the ER or will it subside?
