What Causes Pain From In Mid Spine And Around Ribcage?

Hi I get a lot of pain radiating from one spot in the centre of my spine around my both rib cages and into the centre of my lower chest and upper abdomen. At times it feels as though someone is pushing a blunt object through my spine into my lower chest area. I was in an accident 11 months ago and was thrown from my bicycle over a car and landed face first on the road. As a result I broke my spineous process at the c4. I also had pulmonary emboli as a result of the accident. The drs have been telling me the pain is from my lungs but a cat scan has shown my lungs to be clear of clots now and I am no longer taking the blood thinners. Also I have had an MRI of my thoracic spine that did not indicate anything. Can you suggest what I might do next to get to the bottom of this pain and discomfort.
