What Causes Pain In Back And Lower Abdomen?

Dear Doctor, my question is about my husband s concern who is suffering from back pain, pain around both sides and below his abdomen. The pain is persistent and chronic. He has a history of kidney stones and underwent a shock wave last 2007. What are the possible causes of the pain. Could this be an arthritis or does it have anything to do with the kidney.
