What Causes Pain In Knuckle Of Index Finger?

I have a consistent pain directly beneath my knuckle of the index finger on my left hand. I have no prior history of injury there or anywhere on my hand. I do have familial history of rheumatoid arthritis. Should this be considered? Do I have to see a specialist to get tested or can I go to a clinic or GP? s
