What Causes Pain In Left Foot And Cracking Noise From Ankle?

My left foot has been hurting for almost 6 months, but just recently got to where it has made me start to notice it a lot and even walk funny. Today, as I roll and stretch my ankle I hear several really loud popping sounds. It doesn t hurt more than normal when I pop them but is way more loud than any other popping. My thought is a stress fracture, but I am not sure.
