What Causes Pain In Shoulder On Turning Neck?

If someone has a knot in the area on the left side of the neck,back and shoulder and pain at touch and when turning neck to left and sharp pain in shoulder, ocassionaly when moved certain ways. She is 25 and has had no injury. Just happened a few days ago. She is scared. Any possible suggestions would be appreciated? Thank you.
