What Causes Pain In Stitches On Calf?

I received 10 stitches in the back of my calf 6 days ago.. I am a 63M... Stitches scheduled to come out in 8 days... I thought the stabbing pain would have stopped when I inadvertently stretch.. Kept wound clean .. Should pain have stopped already or are dye sutures too tight possibly?
