What Causes Pain In Stomach After Appendix Surgery?

Five weeks ago my appendix ruptured and had surgery, my doctor told me that my appendix was laying behind my small intenstive and everything was infected when he went in, my question is I'm still having pain on my left side--standing some pain, sitting it hurts real bad, is this normal?
