What Causes Pain In The Abdomen Post Menstrual Cycle?

I'm a 44 year old woman and am into the 9th day of my cycle so I know I'm ovulating but for the last 4 days or so I've had shooting pains on my right side where the ovaries are. I have had pain before but not for this long and so consistently. I remember having pains like this during pregnancy... do you have any info about this?
