What Causes Pain In The Chest After Exercising?

My wife was on the treadmill, running about 3 miles and then within a minute or two she suddenly felt like she was going to get sick and she is having significant pain right below her rib cage on the right side. Its been about three hours now and the symptoms have not gotten any better.
