What Causes Pain In The Penis Post Circumcision

My boyfriends pennis is uncircumsized and hes had an issue with pain and some bleeding under the access skin. We try to not have sex for weeks at a time to hope that it would heal but it never does and it's making sex very difficult because he's in a lot of pain. Any advice?
