What Causes Pain In Thumbs?

Hi the lower part of both thumbs the large soft part that's part of my palm has started to hurt really bad not a typical joint pain from arthritis this is worse and stabbing, worse early morning and not consistent I have arthritis doesn't seem to be same pain, any help appreciated, unusual both hands at same time.
