What Causes Pain In Toe Nail Along With Bruising?

I went to the er cause thought I broke my big toe. The said it just sprained. Its been 7 days and i still have pain when I walk and the bruising gets darker after I have been walking and lightens up when I m of my foot? It is very weird I ve never had this happen?
