What Causes Pain, Inflammation And Tenderness On The Upper Neck?

Hi, I started experiencing pain,inflammation and tenderness on my left side of the upper neck…. right between my jaw line and ear. It happened yesterday as I started to eat and symptoms vanished gradually until today; when I started to eat once again…. Could it be an infected salivary gland?
