What Causes Pain Near The Clitoris?

There is a sort of throbbing/achy type pain in my lower region above and near the clitoris and it has been going on for almost a week now. At times, it hurts so bad, I cannot sit down and sometimes masturbating helps. But, I don't really want to rely on that to make it feel better.
