What Causes Pain Radiating From Neck To Back?

I have had a cough for two weeks with thick mucus that is hard to bring up!!Now I also have a pin that starts in the back of my neck towards the middle and goes down about 5 inches into my back??That pain started about two days ago!It feels like a sore muscle?Any ideas what this could be?
