What Causes Pain Under The Beast?

Over past few months I have been experiencing pain under right breast on the rib cage. At first it was mild pain that comes and goes. Now the pain is a little more severe and is all the time, sometimes worse than other times. I've made an appointment to see a Doctor, but am stressing that this might be something serious. Symptoms on some sites suggest liver cancer. What else causes this pain?
