What Causes Painful And Heavy Menstruation After Cervical Polyp Removal?

I am a 28 year old woman. I was told by my doctor that it was normal to bleed, or rather spot after having a cervical polyp removed. However, I feel as if I have my period but more painful and it's kind of heavy. I had the procedure done yesterday at 3pm and it is about 930pm now. Is this a cause for concern? If not than should I be concerned if this persists for more than 2 or 3 days? Perhaps I'm just emotional and hyper vigilant from the whole experience, I don't know. Anyway, thank you for your help.
