What Causes Painful Dent On The Top Of Foot?

I have a dent on the top of my foot, it is right in the middle, and when I run my fingers over it, there is a weird feeling kind of like rubbing rubber together and I canfeel it down to my toes. It is also very painful to walk and and move and straighten out my foot. Prognosis?
