What Causes Painful Facial Blisters?

My mom thought she was having a reaction to a new moisturizer, she has huge bump/ blisters all over her face but she used the cream a couple times and stopped and hasnt used it in over 2 weeks. she just told me that she thinks maybe its chickenpox but the thing is its only on her face. they are extremly painful. any idea to what this could be??
