What Causes Painful Knee And Thigh?

Hi have shooting pain down the front of my right thigh. It hurts to stand and even more to walk. The knee also throbs. What could this be? Dr. Suggested sciatica., and gave me antiflammatoy steroids. It's been two weeks and is only slightly better. Can only walk short distance until pain starts shooting
