What Causes Painful Knots In The Arm?

hi, i have been having pains in my right for many years now, not long ago had a massage and found a lot of knots in the arm, as soon as they have been massaged out they are back again by the following week. when i have them i struggle to use my arm properly, can't lift it up etc
