What Causes Painful Sensation On The Lining Of Nostrils?

I often experience very painful cold sensation in the lining of my nostrils. It feels cold, but yet like a burning cold (if that makes any sense). And of course inhaling through my nose makes the pain intensify even more. I don t recall feeling this in any other time of year than winter ( I live in Michigan so it does get cold). Once it starts, even moving indoors and sitting in a warm temperature room it still hurts for hours. Occasionally it is accompanied by a runny nose. Could this just be from my allergies or is this something I should have looked at?
