What Causes Painful Sores Inside The Ear?

Approx. 2-3 weeks ago I developed several sores on and in my ears that are incredibly painful to the touch. I thought they were pimples and tried to pop them to speed the healing but it hurt too much to squeeze them so I sterilized a needle and punctured the three on the outer ear. They drained a yellowish liquid and then scabbed over and turned into sores. A couple days later one or more of the ones in the ear canal seemed to have burst. it felt as if I had water in my ear and when I inserted a Q-tip it would be soaked with dark yellow pus and there would be green infection on the tip. It would drain and run down my check if I didn't keep absorbing it with Q-tips. This went on for 2-3 days. There were also other sores in the inner ear that were/are terribly painful to the slightest touch, just as on the outer ear. The scabbed areas on the outer ear have nearly healed, but continue to be just as painful. Today there are new areas on the inner ear that are painful, but not draining. There is also a new rounded sore on the upper part of my ear. I've tried acne creams and Neosporin. I'm not sure if this is makes a difference, but I recently taking Metronidazole for an unrelated issue. Thank you for your time.
