What Causes Painful Swelling Of My Tongue?

I noted an acute onset of pain on the ventro-lateral aspect of my tonge, left, when i looked in the mirror at night, it looked originally as a pedunculated mass, measuring less than 1 cm and quite painful. When i woke up the next day, it turned reddish in color, still painful, same size but looked engorged with hematoma, and now, its colored black. Painful still, specially when it rubs on my teeth, no associated ear pain. Im thinking, could this be papilloma induced? just some form of hematoma, is it a hemangioma? what could this be? im a 38 y/o male, non-smoker, occasional alcoholic drinker. thanks
