my father 77 yr old, was diagnosed with prostrate cancer right before Christmas 2014. He had a prostrate biopsy on 12/16 (due to high psa levels, even after taking several rounds of antibiotics, dr I guess assuming it was infection), ended up admitted to hospital on 12/18 due to an infection from biopsy, received cancer diagnosis on 12/19 and by this time had begun a 10 day IV antibiotic, via pic line, for another infection. He was released on 12/23 and had to return to hospital daily to finish the 10 day iv, which I think was complete on 12/30. Shortly after he developed what sounds to me as a urinary tract infection (constant urge to urinate, very little comes out and is painful; no blood) He talked to his urologist eve of 1/5 who had him come to his office on 1/6 to pick up some sample medication to clear this problem (but did not see my father/examine/test him in any way). Began medication on 1/6 am (1 pill per day-received 28 pills). no change as of yesterday afternoon-called back to urologist office, spoke to nurse who told him he should take medication after dinner instead of am, so since he had already taken a pill yesterday morning, his next pill is tonight after dinner. MY QUESTION: shouldn't he be examined/tested by dr to properly diagnose rather than being told over the phone that this problem he is experiencing is from the enlarged prostrate? He got his first hormone shot 1/2/15 (1 of 3 or 4, once per month accompanied by some type of daily pill, which will likely be followed by radiation) My father is in NJ, I am in SC, my mother is constantly confused, and focused on how this is a disruption of normal life, so no help from her-just complaints and "I don't know what to do" My father doesn't complain and doesn't like to bring any attn to himself and would much rather for this all to go away on it's own. Again, my main question is shouldn't he be seen by dr before the weekend, assuming by tomorrow, there is no relief? Sorry, I have no names of meds and I apologize for being detailed.
