What Causes Penile Bleeding?

When my husband took a shower tonight, I saw several droplet bloodstains in his underwear, he said he wasn t in pain,he didn t notice blood when urinating, what can this be? We have not had sexual relations the last few days, due to medical reasons for me. he is 54 1/2 yrs old.
