What Causes Penile Burning During Sex?

My boyfriend often complains of his penis burning when he enters me. It does not happen all the time. I notice a pattern of this happening when I half way near to my period. We have a child together and these symptoms began when I was pregnant. I m wondering if my PH hormones are too high and acidic at times for him.
