What Causes Periodic Gagging In Throat Along With Difficulty In Swallowing?

I have had a cough since October. It's now January. I have seen doctor. Prescript used/ using. 5 days antibo / inhaler....still cutting sensation on left side of throat. Periodic gaging....difficulty at times swallowing and talking. Dr. says could be a tear in my throat....but gaging episodes are most uncomfortable. And dryness in my throat causes cutting sensation and difficult speech .
