What Causes Persistent Cough Along With Difficulty In Swallowing?

I've been ill for five days and coughing a lot and I've realised that when I felt my adams apple its not curved like it was its go half curved then splits in 2 with a gap in between and when I swallow it feels like my adams apple it getting caught to something and it also seems like its got smaller what does it mean?
