What Causes Persistent Cough Along With Shortness Of Breath?

I have been unwell for about 8 weeks now initially starting with a chest infection which improved with a course of antibiotics, then i seemed to get 2 seperate colds one after another and sinusitis. i've just coped until last week i saw my gp and she ordered a chest x ray and another week of antibiotics which i finished today. It has showed generalised coarsening of the bronchovascular markings likely long standing. I have never in my life had a chest problem i've never smoked and am 47 yrs old i still have a cough although it is better than a week ago and i am still getting a little breathless what should i do now??
I work at the hospital that is how i got my chest x ray result.
