What Causes Persistent Cough Leading To Chest Pain?

I ran an ultra race (50km) yesterday & my asthma acted up, which it hasn t done in a long time. I had to use my inhaler several times. After the race, during the night, I had some productive coughing . Today it hurts to breathe. Basically from my larynx to bottom of my sternum. I don t feel like I have asthma right now. No need to use inhaler but the pain is significant. Worse when I lie down. Like a fat lady with a stiletto standing on my trachea/voice box. Any thoughts?
