What Causes Persistent Itching On The Scalp?

My scalp has always beet irritated but I noticed it has been bugging mr more lately. It is constantly itchy and very hard to relieve the itch unless i just keep scratching till im scratching off skin. I use shampoo specifically for dry scalp but it doesn't seem to be helping much? Could it be psoriasis or is it just really dry?
