What Causes Persistent Pain In Outer Ankle?

I am having severe outer ankle pain. No injury that I can think of. I went to UrgentCare today to have it looked at & the doctor could find nothing wrong, he even took x-rays. The pain is constant. I have taken Ibuprofin & used a heating pad, but it isn t helping at all. I can t put any weight on it. Please advise.
