What Causes Persistent Pain In Shoulder Radiating Towards Chest?

Three times in the last 3 or 4 weeks upon awakening, I have had extreme pain in both shoulders. Once, my arms were up on my chest & I couldn t lower them for about 5 minutes. My first description was I felt like my shoulders had been in a vice. After rubbing my shoulders, I determined the pain was on the front side only. Now I would describe the pain as if I had been hit with a sledge hammer. The pain goes away in less them 10 minutes. However, I am sore today after this happening this morning. I think I was sleeping on my stomach with my arms under me. I am 67 years old & in very good health.
